🌹La Huelga - Community Supports Community

2 September 2025

Mental health is seen as taboo in the workplace and we want to help change that. Stress is often glorified and praised, and we want to help people realize that shouldn’t be the case. That’s why this week we are hosting a Workplace Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Training! In this training, participants learn about different mental illnesses and how they manifest, how stress looks like in the workplace, and best practices to improve mental health. After this training, participants are encouraged to connect with their community to create a community wellness plan for themselves.

In an effort to keep our community safe against increased police and military presence in our city, we have transitioned this training from in-person to completely virtual. You’ve heard it before and you’ll keep hearing it: community keeps community safe

If you’d like to stay updated on future volunteer opportunities, you can join our WhatsApp group here: Become a compa!

We hope to see you out there soon!

Executive Director Diary

I hope you had a POWERFUL and restful Labor Day! If you were at the Labor Day Action yesterday you can attest to the power we experienced. There were community organizations, public unions, and trades unions in attendance and honestly it was BEAUTIFUL. The solidarity we felt on Monday was exactly what we needed personally and as a labor movement after these 9 months of chaos.

With the ongoing threats to our freedoms, please make sure you are keeping community with your neighbors, friends, and loved ones. The antidote to this facism is solidarity and community and we need to be continually checking in our people as we go through this together.

Keep these resources handy as you navigate through what’s to come:

Get to know your neighbors. The only way we get through this and win back the rights we fought so hard for, is together.

What We’re Up To

Did you get a chance to be a part of our month of action???

August was a month full of volunteer, solidarity, and sponsorship opportunities. Xochitl was out on the streets canvassing for our upcoming training, we were on strikelines standing with our siblings, and we hosted our 2025 Fiesta de la Rosas where we honored amazing labor folks! If you missed out on these opportunities, don’t you worry, there’s still plenty for you to do!

#1: If you didn’t get a chance to canvass with us, join our Compa chat and get involved!

#2: If you want to stand in solidarity with your labor siblings, check out an ongoing strikeline in your backyard!  Join Mauser Teamsters at 3201 S, Millard Ave, Chicago, IL for their 24/7 strikeline. Bring yourself or the whole fam – this is a strikeline full of solidarity and joy! Find more info in our events section below!

#3: If you didn’t get a chance to sponsor our Fiesta de las Rosas, there’s still a chance for you to help and make an impact! Our liberation is forever connected. We depend on folks like you who share our values to keep the work going. Donate once, donate monthly, donate often!

💥And don’t forget—we’re always looking for passionate volunteers to join the movement. Wanna roll with us? Fill out the form & become a Chicago JWJ compa:
