Illinois Jobs to Move America

Illinois Jobs to Move America

Jobs to Move America is a national campaign organized by the AFL-CIO and the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE) to use public investments in public transit to create manufacturing of rail cars and buses in the United States, creating quality, union jobs.  The campaign has realized this vision and goal in a breakthrough development  in Chicago.

After more than a year of talks with the Chicago Federation of Labor and LAANE, in October 2014, the City of Chicago and the CTA released a bid for rail cars that includes LAANE’s U.S. Employment Plan language.  The bids the CTA receives will be evaluated in part on jobs created.  This campaign has the potential create thousands of jobs in Chicago and Illinois.

The campaign and coalition is led locally by the Chicago Federation of Labor, Chicago Jobs with Justice and community, environmental, and labor stakeholders.  Chicago Jobs with Justice and the Jobs to Move America Illinois Coalition is also supporting workers organizing at the Nippon-Sharyo manufacturing plant in Rochelle, IL which is currently building cars for Metra in Illinois.
