Strike update, Sunday September 9 --
Teachers will be on the picket line tomorrow...
...unless CPS comes back with a better offer. According to media reports, some progress is being made but not enough to call off the strike.
Here's a few things you can do to help support our teachers in the event of a strike:
1) Join the picket line at your school--pickets will be held at EVERY school tomorrow morning from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. and will continue beyond that time at the 140 "holding centers" CPS wants to open.
2) Tie red ribbons throughout your neighborhood--the union can't keep enough yard and window signs in stock. Deck your neighborhood in red to show solidarity.
3) Flood downtown at 3:30 p.m.--CTU has called for a mass rally at 3:30 p.m. Monday at CPS, 125 S. Clark. We need downtown Chicago to look like Madison, Wisconsin did last year. Public pressure on the mayor and CPS is the key to winning a contract that's good for teachers and our kids.
4) Attend a community forum--Get your friends and neighbors out to hear why the teachers are really striking and how we can work together to win better schools for our children.
Monday, Sept. 10
East Side United Methodist Church

Tuesday, Sept. 11

Thursday, Sept. 13

5) Call CPS and the Mayor--Tell them you support the teachers' demands and that you know this fight is about more than money. It's about bringing smaller classes, a better--not just longer--day, and more services to our schools. The teachers are fighting for things that really matter in the classroom. Together we can win the schools our children deserve.

No matter how difficult a strike is, parents and teachers must stand united, because our teachers' needs go hand in hand with our kids' needs. Good working conditions for teachers are good learning conditions for students. Together we can win a fair contract for teachers and quality schools for our children!
