In addition to the toll in human lives, the Iraq War has cost billions, and is a key factor in the economic meltdown. On January 31, the Workers Rights Board will host a public hearing called "War's Real Impact: Our Voices." The event will feature testimony from veterans, GI's military families and labor activists. The goal is to build public pressure and get Congress to bring an end to the war.

Teamsters Local 734 bakery drivers and community activists will leaflet five Jewel grocery stores in the Chicagoland area on Sunday, August 10, urging the grocery chain to give up its attempts to force its bakery suppliers’ drivers to work on Sundays.
Jewel’s demand that the drivers work several hours on Sundays would affect about 400 bakery route sales reps employed by Jewel suppliers Sara Lee, Interstate Baking Corp. (IBC), George Westin Baking and Chicago Baking.

Over 47 million people in the United States have no health care. The private, for profit insurance industry in this country is the source of the health care crisis. These corporations deny hundreds of thousands of people health insurance. The Institute of Medicine estimates at least 18,000 die a year due to lack of access to health care. Reforming the health care system is a matter of life and death.
American News Project has a video online about Indian guest workers in the Gulf Coast. Please click on this story to watch the video now.

Call your Representatives and Senators!
Eleven guest workers from the Gulf Coast continue their
hunger strike for justice for all guest workers. They are asking
allies to call their representatives in Congress to inform them
about the workers’ struggle and ask them to sign onto a
letter to the Department of Justice calling for “continued
presence” for the workers and further investigations.
You can help! Please urge your representatives in Congress
to sign onto a letter calling for them to remain in the U.S. and
to hold hearings on Signal International.
